2012 CAKE TRENDS – Top 10 Cake Trends To Watch from Cake Appreciation Society

What will be the top trends for cakes in 2012?  As we  welcome in a new year, Cake Appreciation Society reviews some of the cake trends we’ve shared during 2011 that we think will be popular for 2012.

1. Fresh Flower Cake Decoration

5 Tier Wedding Cake by Iconic Cakes and decorated with fresh flowers by Creative Colour Wedding and Event Flowers

According to Creative Colour Wedding and Event Flowers in Brisbane, fresh flower cake decoration will continue to be a popular choice for bridal couples looking to achieve maximum impact in co-ordinating wedding flowers for the wedding party  with the cake without breaking the budget.  Seasonal fresh flowers can offer a more cost effective alternative to labour intensive hand made fondant flowers.

6. Push Up Cakes

Push Up Cakes by Popular Treats (Cake Pops) - a trend on the rise.

Push Up Cakes are layers of cake and cream in a container which you ‘push up’ from the bottom to eat, similar to the push-up ice cream packaging familiar to many. Push Up Cakes rate highly in the convenience factor with the self-contained cake being easy to eat ‘on the go’ and the see-through containers maximising the effect of coloured layers and textures of the Push Up Cake. You’ll find more information about Push Up Cakes including a recipe and instructions in our Blog on this website.

10. Fresh Fruit and Chocolate

Fresh Strawberries and Chocolate Wedding Cake by Elisabeth's Wedding Cakes

Fresh fruit and chocolate go together like a horse and carriage! Fresh strawberries, blueberries and raspberries combine well with chocolate for visual and flavour appeal.  Decoration with a variety of fresh fruit will continue to be popular. White chocolate is very popular for wedding cakes thanks to its ability to be coloured to any desired shade required.  Will dark chocolate become a favourite thanks to its antioxidant properties which justify the calorie intake?

For those wanting gluten free, Flourless Chocolate Cake is a most delicious option.  We share a Flourless Chocolate Cake Recipe here in our Blog. Take a look at our CELEBRATING CHOCOLATE photo album to see why we celebrate chocolate all year round for any occasion here
